Description
"Like the old X-men? You'll love the new X-men. Still Uncanny after all these years." I saw this ad (which I also posted in my CAF) in Marvel Comics as a kid and never forgot it-- even when I thought it was drawn by John Byrne. It was a long hunt for this original art, with a few near misses, but I can safely say this is one of the most important pieces to me in my collection.

Damn, I remember seeing that back in the day. One of my favorite images of the old and new X-Men. You find all the best stuff.

Truly, truly awesome piece! Thanks for posting this outstanding art, and congrats on finding your grail! This artwork was used... with another Cockrum Nightcrawler stripped in... on the 7-11 Slurpee cup featuring the X-Men in 1977. It was well chosen as THE iconic and ideal X-Men image of its era... and arguably ever. Cockrum was definitely hitting on all cylinders the year he drew this. It's anybody's guess how many people saw this art, but it's tens of thousands more than saw it in the Marvel house ads. This certainly falls into the "if I could only own one representative X-Men image, this would be it" category!

It's the best possible piece of art -- it reminds me of how cool it was to anticipate the X-Men before they returned, and then how cool each new issue was. Also, I remember how well-drawn I thought it was back then, and this piece explains why. Really terrific, Dave, congratulations.

This piece and Brent Andersons X-Men's Index cover featuring both incarnations of the X-Men are two of my favorite pieces ever produced featuring the assembled group. I loved this house ad, what a terrific acquisition David. A real special piece.

You know I'm a sucker for 'BAMF!', but I really like the Beast here.  Cockrum solid gold!  This would be one of the most important pieces in anyone's collection.
