Description

A grail piece for me - a Charles Vess pen and ink of one of his wonderful trees, but in this case there's a well-known monster lurking in the background! Perfect for my monster theme! This image, from 1987, was originally published in a Dark Horse Godzilla book. There's a lot going on in this piece - the great tree with a bonsai quality to it, the tall, thin composition of the piece with a lot of open area at the top, and the shape of the mountains in the background combine to give a very Japanese air to the piece. The presence of Godzilla helps, too...!
