Starman (Kyle Baker-2005 SDCC)

I love this piece, and yet it vexes me so. I mean, I'm a big Kyle Baker fan. Instant Piano made me want to find The Cowboy Wally Show, which in turn led to other stuff. I'm CRAZY about Nat Turner. In fact, this sketch came about because Kyle (can I call you Kyle?) & I were talking about Nat Turner and the difficulties of teaching racially sensitive material (Huckleberry Finn was one of the focal points of the discussion) at a predominantly white high school, among other topics. Anyway, I asked him if he'd be willing to do a sketch for the book and he obliges. When he finished, he looked at it and said, "People are going to think it's Plastic Man." And of course, he's right. Everyone who sees it asks why Plastic Man is in the book. And I think all it would take to fix that is Kyle adding Jack's star badge. But I'm hesitant to ask him about it. Why? I don't know. Embarrassment? I don't want to be the nerd who's not satisfied with the art. So I don't know what, if anything, I'm going to do...
