DescriptionI bought this off the Original Comic Art category on Ebay. During the 1970's and 1980's Richard Clifton-Dey (1930-1997) was one of the most highly-respected British illustrators. Much of his work was for book covers, either for science fiction, fantasy, war books, romances or gothic horror. His reputation was founded on the fact that he could paint anything. The seller believed that this was the cover for The Black Queen, one of a trilogy by Clint Rockman from the 1970's. It turns out that the actual book (which has no "The") features an African woman with a 1970's afro. So, its origin is now a complete mystery. The art's blank space extends higher, to accomodate the book's title. I don't know the plot, but it appears that a British naval officer is covering an exotic naked woman with his cloak, nice guy.Social/Sharing |
