Description

It simply would not be right to commission a series of Werewolf By Night-related drawings for my gallery without asking the comic book artist best associated with that character (the great Don Perlin) to draw one, too.

For this new commission, I gave Don the general outline of a scene from my most recent Marvel Two in One 'What If' scenario (i.e. a story I wish Marvel had done back in the day, but unfortunately never did) in which the ever-lovin' Thing teams up with Werewolf by Night and travels to the red planet to help John Carter (Warlord of Mars).

This time out, I asked Don for his interpretation of the climactic showdown between the two protagonists and the villainous Lord-sire of the Badoon. (The Badoon were an alien race like the Kree and the Skrulls that appeared in Marvel Comics back in the 1970s, but disappeared from sight for reasons unknown).

Don Perlin did a wonderful job depicting this perilous scene with our heroes trapped in a high tech Martian laboratory filled with a dangerous looking arsenal of tubes, pipes, contraptions and gizmos. Don completed the drawing very quickly, was great with answering my emails right away, had terrific prices and delivered a page of beautiful finished pencils.

As always, Joe Rubinstein did a superb job inking this piece. As you can see from the scan on the right, I asked Joe to make some revisions during the inking phase - not because those details were 'wrong' in the pencil version, but because I wanted to keep a consistent look to these characters and costumes throughout this entire series of drawings. I asked for the changes you see above, so please blame me for them, not Joe.

I love what you did here with these 2 masters of the medium -- these guys have drawn and inked it all and not lost a single step. Very nice.
