Green Arrow Batman Neal Adams

Big Apple 04. Great story behind this piece: Neal was the Guest of Honor at Big Apple 04, positioned right by the front door. It was one of my first cons. I went up to his table first thing, and spoke to one of the people nearby him, inquiring how much a sketch might cost. Naturally, it was very expensive, and was well out of my price range (or at least it would have almost wiped me out for the weekend). So I sighed, and went to enjoy the rest of the show, begining the sketchbook all these pieces are from.

Well, Sunday night, the show is wrapping up, and it's five minutes after close and people are slowly trickling out. I go back up to Neal since no one's around, and say "Mr. Adams, I wasn't able to afford a sketch, but I was wondering if you would mind dedicating the front of the book?" Neal takes it and signs his name, and to my surprise, begins drawing! He draws a Batman, and I swear I was not trying to be a smart ass, I said "Thank you so much! But.. it's a Green Arrow book." He sighs and adds GA right next to Batman, and throws in the dialogue. All for free. I think there was a look of concern from someone else at the table which I read to say 'You're not gonna be happy when you see that on ebay later...' but it's on the inside front cover of the book, and I don't plan on ever selling it. I'll always treasure it :)
