Description

Exactly one month before Victory in Europe Day, VE Day, more than one out of three Americans read this Li'l Abner strip about Abner fooling the Bettie Page precursor, One Weakness Jones. This page is huge, over 500 square inches and is a feast for the eyes in person, (much better than it looked on Ebay). Jones was undoubtedly the hottest number in comic strips that month. We get three shots of Daisy Mae and, for the ladies, Abner is showing his beef cake, including (surprisingly a man nipple). This was definitely the best-drawn humor strip of its time. To what extent this is the work of Capp himself is impossible to say. He used ghosts, the only one of which I have been able to confirm is Frank Frazetta, who didn't work for Capp until years later. Al Capp had not repurchased the rights to his strip from the syndicate, so it's likely this is all by him.
