A few years ago, DC came out with a limited series featuring a new Mister Miracle. It wasn't the Scott Free we all know and love, but instead starred his protege Shilo Norman as the super escape artist. It was all part of Grant Morrison's SEVEN SOLDIERS project, with the new MM as one of the seven.
Although MM's limited series was kinda confusing to me, I'm always happy to see a new superhero of color on the scene, and you know what that means. Yep, straight into the Brotherhood reservists ranks and time for a commissioned piece. For this one, I gave the nod to the extremely talented and vastly underrated Kevin J. West. Kevin absolutely nailed this one, and as soon as that multi-million dollar check from Ed McMahon clears, I'll be requesting an entire Brotherhood commission from him. After all, Ed's checks are as good as gold, right? Hi-yo!!
This piece sadly got damaged in transit when being sent for inking. I filed a complaint with a postal official named Willie Lumpkin. He said they couldn't do anything about my commission, but that he could "wiggle his ears" upon command.
I don't think much has been seen of Shilo since his limited series. My personal opinion is that there are a segment of readers that hate it when you introduce a new version of a character when the old character is still around. I think that's why the new Firestorm series never caught on, and why the new Atom series is on life support.
Hopefully Shilo will hang on. Maybe he and Scott can co-exist. After all, they have more than one Flash and more than one Green Lantern. We'll see.
