Black Canary by Sandy Carruthers

Done in Toronto, August 2004 by former Men in Black artist Sandy Carruthers. Carruthers had done a piece for me two years earlier which, at the time, was probably my favorite piece I had drawn at that convnetion. When the opportunity arose to see him again I was eager to get him to do a Canary for me. Approaching his table I introduced myself and told him that I had him do one of my all time favorite pieces two years earlier. Carruthers looked at my thoughtfully and said "Yeah, I remember you. It was the Insect Queen naked and all covered in honey - right?"

I was taken aback. "No, it was Mary Marvel" I replied.

"I've drawn Mary Marvel" Carruthers questioned and shrugged.

I tell you though. I sure would love to see that picture of Insect Queen. ;)
