Description
"For those who ride the lightning." I'm standing on my soapbox right now so this is going to be long. I collected comics as a kid because I loved them and comic art partly because of a robbery. In 1999 I started moving into the home I'm in now and was a week into it when my house got robbed. All my comics were stolen (inside job, I'm sure but to suspect everyone and walk around paranoid would drive me to a padded room somewhere) and I didn't know if I ever would get even 1/8 of the hard to find issues let alone the common stuff back. Being rather disheartened, I talked to my comic shop guy and we figured I could either quit cold turkey or start again anew. That fall at the Fallcon show, I bought some stuff I once had and went to the Auction they have for charity. It was there that I picked up a Cavewoman drawing and the rest is history. When I started getting comic art, in the back of my mind was always, "I want to get something by Mike Wieringo with the Flash on it because his run was special to me." Still is. This idea was always there and wouldn't go away. On the Monday after some friends and I got home from Wizard World Chicago 2007, a buddy emailed me some news that Mike had passed away. I read this and felt like I'd been robbed again only I always had the chance to get my comics back. I would never get to see him and shake his hand to say how much he meant to me. Of the 2 pieces I have, I like this one a tiny bit better. This is because I don't see Wally running into the speed force but Mike going where, if I'm good, someday I hope to be running as well. I miss you Mike and someday, maybe I can run with you...

Mike Wieringo's art, alongside with Mike Parobeck's, was Such a much needed breath of fresh air in the midst of the 'grim & gritty' and 'extreme' era. The great Mikes were truly ahead of the curve, showing how less can truly be so much more. Both Stars shined bright and fast and the comics industry has yet to find a rightful successor to either. As you can guess, I'm also a HUGE fan of this run, in which Wieringo had shown us how light and dynamic "bulky" characters could be.
