I figured it was in the 80s. Computer crime was still an oddity then. They had no idea that one day a computer savvy thug could sit in a McDonalds with free wifi stealing money and personal information. In 1981 our high school still had a 'Computer Lab', a room with one computer students had to have permission from a teacher to use. They were talking about having a class teaching computers to everyone the year after I graduated in 1983. I just missed it. I only knew two people who had a computer in their home then, and they terrified me. Those guys were brainiacs, and it seemed that was the only type of person who could understand those things.
