Description

This is it - my official 15 minutes of fame! I hooked up with a small press publisher near Daytona Beach and I ended up getting approached to draw the cover to the fourth and final issue of this series in 1997. The publisher had talked with Dick Giordano (they lived in the same area and frequented the same comic shop) and he tentatively agreed to ink the cover. I drove all the way to Daytona to meet Dick and show him the penciled cover. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO NERVOUS IN MY LIFE. He looked it over for a moment, pointed to the character on the left and said, without looking up, "Is this guy's head SUPPOSED to be too small for his body?" I said "no" trying not to let my voice break. He kept looking it over, then said, "It's pretty good. I can clean that up, but it's pretty good." He agreed to ink it. This is the finished product as it saw print. I still have the original, and will always cherish the opportunity I had to work with one of comics' greatest legends.
