Jade by Alex Maleev

Having seen and admired his published work, and anticipating his debut on Spider-Woman, asking Alex to provide a piece for this portfolio was a given. This year's Comicon provided the opportunity, and he very kindly obliged me. Agreeing to a penciled rendering, I looked forward to seeing the finished result.



Being presented with this stunning ink wash portrait left me momentarily speechless. The figure was first rate, and the simple but effective background tones made the image seem to pop off the page. But it was her expression that really captured my attention. Like studying a piece of music for the first time, where the individual vocal lines seem extremely unlikely, yet come together in a perfect chord, the sum of her features provide a very winning effect. Thank you Alex!
