Description

The Erciyes Fragments purport to be the "Journal and Notes of Fra Niccolo of Venice, Noddist Scholar and Itinerant Monk" and tells of his search for the Book of Nod, the vampire scriptures. In the Bible (the real-world one), after the murder of Abel, Cain was exiled to the Land of Nod. The Book of Nod relates how he came upon his vampiric powers and weaknesses, the events that led to the flood and his prophecies for the end-times. This illustration was in Chapter 3 of the book which related how 4 angels came to Cain. The first was Michael (this piece) who offered Cain God's mercy. When he was refused, he cursed Cain with weakness to flame. The published text beside this piece was: "There came to me an angel, and his essence was fire. His garments were of spun gold and his eyes were blazing scarlet. His sword shone with holy flame, too bright to gaze upon." (Bought from Michael Gaydos, 2009/05)
