Description
The Blue Blaze Mystic Comics #1 – 4 (March 1940 – August 1940)
Our story begins in 1852, where one Dr. Keen has been experimenting with a new form of energy, a "blue blaze" with which he has returned dead insects and laboratory mice to life. On the very eve that Dr. Keen decides that his discovery is too dangerous and must be destroyed, a tornado strikes the town. Dr. Keen's adult son, Spencer, is accidentally exposed to the blue blaze before he, his father and most of the townspeople, are killed in the disaster. Flash forward to the present day, or rather 1940, and Spencer Keen, now invulnerable and possessed of super strength, rises from his grave, assumes the alias "the Blue Blaze", and begins a crusade against the forces of evil.
And what forces they were. Zombie hordes, mad scientists, evil astrologers, power mad would be dictators and a killer golem: these were the type of villains the Blue Blaze met and bested in his adventures, before returning to the grave to await his next call to action.
The Blue Blaze's first and final appearances were credited only to "Harry & Douglas". His appearances in Mystic Comics 2 & 3 were not by the same artist and featured no writer or artist credit. Alex Schomburg contributed two Blue Blaze covers, on Mystic Comics numbers 1 and 3.
