Vampires in White Wolf's "World of Darkness" setting believe themselves to be descendants of Cain/Caine. Like many Christian Gnostic sects (since declared heretical by the Catholic Church), Cainites believed that the world was created by a malevolent demiurge or inferior deity. Vampires, thru agency of Sophia, the "Divine Wisdom", were blessed by God and were spared aging and death and thus akin to angels. This piece underlines that connection.
