Description

Al Capp, flush with success with Li�l Abner approached Raeburn van Buren about drawing a new strip he wanted to write. Van Buren initially turned him down but relented and Abbie an� Slats was born. It ran from July 12, 1937 to 1971 when van Buren retired. Never a great success, it did persist until its principals decided to quit. It was initially penned by Capp and then by his brother, Elliot Caplin. This is a huge 24� by 17�. The man is Bathless Groggins, the real star of the strip.
