Glen Keane is the foremost animator of the current generation; supervising animator for lead characters like Ariel, Beast, Aladdin, and Pocohontas. At the con, Don Hahn, Glen Keane, Eric Goldberg, Tom Sito, and Ruben Procopio spoke on the life and influence of animation instructor Walt Stanchfield and the newly published two-volume
Drawn to Life: 20 Golden Years of Disney Master Classes. Following the panel, Glen visited with fans one on one in the hallway, talking, posing for pictures, signing autographs, and drawing sketches for an enthusiastic crowd. I stayed on the fringes until the crowd died down a bit. Nearly an hour went by. I stood by with my finger marking the fresh page in my sketchbook. A fan asked Glen to sign her DVD covers, but he could not write on the single sheet of paper. I offered up my sketchbook for use as a writing surface. Glen took the book and thanked me. He signed a couple covers, then another fan thrust her book in for a sketch. After that, Glen opened my book and flipped pages to find a blank page. I pointed out the Pierre Alary sketch and said he was one of Glen's Tarzan animators in Paris. Glen said he knew Pierre and asked what he was doing. I said Pierre is now doing French comics. Glen said his daughter married a Frenchman so he has a lasting connection to France. While we chatted, he drew this headshot of Tarzan. Meeting Glen was one of the highpoints of the con.
