This wonderful Alex Toth piece was originally done as an ad (see additional image) for the Hollywood Reporter looking for actors to play various parts in the Legends of the Superheroes TV specials that are available on DVD by Warner Archives.

The 2 specials saw Adam West and Burt Ward reprise their Roles as Batman & Robin, about 10 years after the ABC show was cancelled. And due to the Superman movies and the Wonder Woman TV show, Captain Marvel and Black Canary were used in the ad instead.
I acquired this piece in 1996, a few short weeks before SDCC that year and blew my entire con budget on it, but I feel it was well worth it. A copy of the ad was published on page 352 of Darrell McNeil's Alex Toth by Design book in 1996 and the original art was recently published in IDW's book, Genius Illustrated, The Life and Art of Alex Toth on page 169. This book series by Dean Mullaney & Bruce Canwell is terrific and I'm looking forward to the 3rd and final volume.
