Dawnstar by Marshall Rogers

Marshall Rogers is probably best known for his work on DC's Batman, and was one of the core artists who defined the iconic look and the image of the character.

He was a guest of the 2005 MCBA FallCon, held at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds in the Education Building. I waited in line to get a sketch from him, and asked him to pick out any one of the Legionnaires to draw. He declined to choose, telling me that I would have to make the decision. My friend Greg Langer, who happened to be there at the time, suggested the classic Karate Kid. I thought that would be a good choice, but couldn't find a good reference for him in the comics I had with. I felt panicked, as Marshall was sitting there waiting for me. I finally chose Dawnstar, and he did a great job on her.

The next year I decided to make a list of Legionnaires I didn't currently have in the book for instances like this.

Marshall Rogers died on March 25, 2007. He was the first person to do a sketch in my Legion book that had passed away. He was a great guy to meet, and I’m happy to have gotten this sketch.
