DescriptionThis has most of what I want from a Big John page. The majestic villain portrait in p.1, the diagonal entrance of Subby in p. 2 (just a little reminiscent of the Surfer entering the cover of Silver Surfer 4? Well, I like to think so), and the elongated bodies of the workers in p.4. And that great coral shape in p.3. And Buscema's best inker ever. I LOVE this page.Bought from Mike Burkey. Did you ever own this page? I'd like to hear about it, where you got it and who you let it go to. Social/Sharing |

I owned this page for almost 20 years. Had it and about 13 others from issue #6 (including the splash). My favorite Subby book. Sold them when I bought my house about 5 years ago. It's a GREAT page! If you ever wish to let it go.......:-)

Provenance Joe Jusko collection! I just added 10% to my theoretical value for the piece! ;) But seriously, as a guy who knows what he's talking about, I'm glad you appreciate the piece. Did you get the Subby 6 pages from JB directly?

IMHO the best Buscema period was Avengers circa 55, Silver Surfer AND Sub-Mariner. In that period, his anatomies were as perfect as ever, but charged with drama and emption. NIce choice for a vintage Buscema page.

I agree Carlo. There's a feeling in this period of Buscema discovering his own power. I think he must have been surprising himself with how good some of his panels were.

This is definitely my favorite period in Big John's storied career, and Adkins inks here seem just right to me.

There really is something about these early Buscema pages that keep drawing you back to them for another look. Great page!

This page is a masterpiece. Love the 1st panel with the sinister villain plotting his next move (love his expression) and all the great images of Subby. Congrats!
