"Merzah the Mystic" was something of a misnomer. Merzah had no magical powers in the established tradition, but did possess both telepathic and precognitive abilities. In his one and only outing, Merzah, aided by his beautiful assistant/girlfriend, Diana, and his valet, Jose, defeats a band of Japanese spies –which in and of itself was quite unusual to find in comics in the pre-Pearl Harbor period.

It really is a shame that nothing more was done with Merzah, as the strip had great potential. There was some interesting characterization and the art, credited to "Russ Lanford" was quite good.
