I recently picked up this important and beautiful piece from nice guy and art collector with a great eye, Ben Friedman. Ben said ' This is the Prince Valiant Sunday from 10/25/70, #1759. This is the last Prince Valiant piece that Foster drew before he handed over the strip to John Cullen Murphy, though Murphy's name wouldn't be on the strip for another 10 years. From 1939, until 1970, Foster did every piece of Prince Valiant art. I like to think that Foster thought about this as he was drawing this incredible piece of art -- after 31 years, and hundreds of drawings, Foster must have been thinking "this is the last one I am doing, before someone else starts taking over." At least that's what I want to believe.' Hal Foster sold it at a charity auction in the 1970s to the wife of "Pogo" creator Walt Kelly. Ben purchased it from her heirs, and I got it from Ben.

It's amazing to consider that Foster was 78 years old when he executed this piece, and continued to draw pencil preliminary roughs for Murphy for several more years.

AS SOMEONE THAT HAS ALWAYS APPRECIATED HISTORY & "COMIC" HISTORY IN PARTICULAR, THIS SPECIFIC HAROLD FOSTER "PRINCE VALIENT" SUNDAY DEFINES MOST APPROPRIATELY EVERYTHING SIGNIFICANT WHEN IT COMES TO COMIC ART HISTORY IN-GENERAL. MAZEL TOV, ROB:-)
