(Acquired in April 2010, through a popular vending site)

Upon buying, this was being described as some kind of printed production- color-guide, when in fact it's the original hand-painted 'color blueline'-page, complete with an acetate overlay providing the inks, as photographed from the actual inked page - which the colorist could lay over amidst the coloring process, provided any paint would be dry enough.

Photographing each hand-colored page in this way, will have been the only way to be providing real painted colors into comic pages, instead of the duller, mechanically applied printcolors until 1994/1995, when Photoshop will have come into use.

In 1993, when the DC graphic novel 'Ironwolf: Fires Of the Revolution', of which this is the endpage, had been published - in hardcover both as in trade paperback edition - colorist (and partner of David Mazzucchelli) Richmond Lewis got nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Coloring.

And indeed in this work the colours look totally mindblowing. Because of this picture being a scan, having the page & overlay lying upside-down, the colors are in reality far more vibrant both as more niftily textual than is being displayed here.

Very cool acquisition, Keez! Although I have to admit that I've never actually been able to slog through Ironwolf (talk about an impenterable story), I adore Mike's art from this book. Good for you!
