Description

Although I have never been a big fan of Bob Brown's artwork, he did one cover whose layout always impressed me -- CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN #48 which guest featured the Doom Patrol. The story was entitled "Twilight of the Challengers". Knowing Joltin' Johnny Lucas' penchant for adapting old covers in a new way, I suggested, "How about using the Doom Patrol, but having them carry either the original X-Men or the FF?

"The Doom Patrol and the X-Men have certain similarities like two leaders in wheel chairs (not depicted, I assume) and a bunch of super-powered misfits.

"The FF on the other hand are kind of the Marvel version of the Challengers of the Unknown, so it might work well to swap out the FF for the Challs. I also think that you’d do an awesome Robotman, which is one of the reasons I was thinking of you for this."

The Joltin' One has a penchant for the FF, so he went to town with my idea! Thanks Johnny!
