Description8x13x19.5" tall painted solid wood display (part turned, part hand carved) depicting Centaurette with arms raised above head, flowers in one hand, hair on back of head in a large bun configured like a bunch of grapes and she wears a leaf bra. High relief design on base depicts additional flowers and leaves, Designed for Walt Disney Productions Properties by W.L. Stensgaard & Associates Inc. for use by Davenport Hosiery Mills. Designed for the exclusive showing of HummingBird Nylon Hosiery and first used to introduce the first colored woman's nylon hosiery in 1940. These figures were painted in different color combinations representing the different colors of stockings being introduced. This model displayed HummingBird stockings in blonde shade matching the Centaurette's hair. The saleslady also kept a pair of the hosiery in the blond shade to go with her Centaurette. I can only wish for a photo from the period showing how the nylons were draped across the model.Social/Sharing |
