Spider-man vs. Venom... Again

This piece was a birthday gift. I was contacted by a lady named Samantha who wanted to surprise her husband with an original piece of art for his birthday. She said his favorite character was Venom, so she wanted a large (20 X 30) piece done of Venom taking on Spider-man... With Venom winning! I was honored to be asked, so I, of course, said yes. Funny thing is, I had already been aproached by another buyer with the same request (just not as large a piece), so I couldn't help but wonder while I was working on this piece, if it was for the same person. Turned out it was for a different person entirely, but it was always in the back of my mind. This was the first time I had ever been commissioned for a birthday gift, but I was more than happy to help Samantha out. "Happy Birthday Jose", and I hope you enjoy your present!

This piece is a 20 X 30 piece (larger than most that I work on) and depicts Venom getting ready to finally end his feud with Spider-man. I decided to do this piece as an extreme close-up instead of a normal action shot so that Venom would be as large as possible (almost lifesize) and you could catch all of the detail that I love to throw into Venom: From his gnarly teeth to all of the drool dripping off of his curled up tongue. I also thought the fact that Venom is licking Spidey's face leaving a drool trail across Spider-man's mask was a neat, yet disturbing, touch. Almost like he is taking his time and savoring his prey. I also left an inch border around the piece (for framing purposes) that I decorated with a cobweb / spiderweb design. I think it came together nicely...
