Description
...or to quote Batman, ""Everyone looks up to you. They listen to you. If you tell them to fight, they'll fight. But they need to be inspired. And let's face it "Superman"... the last time you really inspired anyone -- was when you were dead." This particular page is a nice bookend to my first Doomsday page, as it officially features Supeman's return, even including the iconic cape flag from issue #75. I'll admit Superman is my favorite comic character, but I haven't bought an issue of Superman or Action Comics in years. I was a big buyer of the Swan era comics, and probably the above isse was the last time I bought Superman on a regular basis. The last great Superman stories I can remember reading were "Whatever Happend to Superman' my Alan Moore and "All Star Superman" by Grant Morrison (both Europeans...so much for the American Way). It's a little syndrome I call the "Mickey Mouse" syndrome. Mickey Mouse is famous around the world, and as the foundation of Disney. However, how many people can say the have actuallly seen a Mickey Mouse cartoon besides Steamboat Willie at Disney World (Duck Tales and DarkWing Duck are another story). It's getting to the point Superman is just famous for being Superman, and not for good stories anymore. Another spiral in comics downfall.. Another item to mention about this page is all the relgious symbolism surrounding the "Last Son of Krypton" as a Jesus figure. I won't go into all of that, but if you don't get any of the from the" Death of Superman" storyline and the "I want the Body!" lines above...well, go back to sunday school. By the way, Superman's reglion is non-practicing First Methodist.
