Billy Marriner (1880-1914) was one of the early pioneers of the comic strip. Known for his kid cartoons, Marriner had a lively line, one which gave a lot of movement to his work. Unfortunately, Marriner's personal life was a bit of a mess, and he wound up dying in a house fire, most likely caused during a bout of alcoholism. This particular cartoon most likely appeared in Life, Puck, or Judge magazines. Dated 1897 on the reverse.
