Description

"THE WAY IT BEGAN..." Wow, remember those cool record sets back in the '70s? Power Records (also known as peter pan) were so fun and I had most of them. Planet of the Apes, Fantastic Four vs. the Mole Man, Manbat by Neal Adams and even the whole Marvel monster fest, who could resist? Great stuff. One of the most disturbing sets, hands down, had to be the saga about the suicidal clown in Mike Ploog's MAN-THING. Hey, who approved this kind of material for kids? Anyway, an hour before Heroes Con opened to the public in 2005, as my friend and I were rambling through Ploog's portfolios of pages for sale, what did I come across??? One of my favorite pages in the whole book! Just a classic line up that even includes the dead clown and musclehead, TRAGG! Who would guess Ploog would still have any vintage stuff left? He said you should have seen what his ex-wife took! Actually, he still had a whole bunch of "Planet of the Apes" and "Ghost Rider" pages that would make any worthy man salivate. Of course, the power records edition was really a reprint of Ploog's very first issue of his classic run, Man-thing #5, original series, from 1974, when Marvel still retained a heart and soul. Great storyline even if it wasn't for the kiddies.

Recently updated with creator, Roy Thomas' signature from Heroes Con 2012.

One of the most memorable pages from this classic issue!!! You could really sense the fear with that look that Tragg is giving in the last panel. You know what a big fan I am of this one. So very cool to see the page along with the Power Record and comic book version. They just don't make them like this anymore!!!

Great, great page... thanks for sharing! It's a shame we didn't get another fifty issues of Gerber and Ploog on Man-Thing. I have to add a Ploog Man-Thing page to my collection someday!

WOW! AWESOME! It's a shame Ploog & Gerber didn't do atleast like 10-30 more issues together. If DC & Marvel had brains back then. They would had done a Man-Thing vs Swamp Thing book. Where they battle then team up. With Wrightson doing Swamp Thing & Ploog Man-Thing! I am truly Slimy Green with envy. Ok, just green! Happy St.Patricks day! This is my favorite storyline from the Ploog run. I loved that sad, crazy & creepy clown!

This is prime-time Ploog from an amazing series. I fondly remember the days when the two most chilling comics were either company's swamp critters.
