Description
Ahhhh, made it thru all the holidays, plus a birthday, to 2011...THE WORLD OF THE FUTURE!!! My latest comic art project project is to try and get various artists to draw their version of the original cover art I own from “Phonogram: The Singles Club #1” by Jamie McKelvie. It just amazes me that a few simple lines (looks like he drew this with a protractor) can come together to form such a complex piece of art. I'm trying to get various artist to draw the same picture in their own styles, so I can see how other in the field interpret this picture, as well as any “special” addition each artist has created from developing his or her own characters if applicable. My plan was to try and get one new page each month (aka a total of 11 more) throughout 2011. I actaully started working on this back in 2010. So far, the results have been a little disheartening. Right now, I have one commission in hand, three more in the works, and one in the pre-negotiation stage. My first few attempts were to send out some "comic art care packages" to several artists I did not really think would respond back. I actaully have one of these in the works though, and a definite rejection from Steve Ditko, Steve Ditko represenative, or some random guy who lives in New York who happens to be named Steve Ditko. Nothing rude, just sent everything back to me, which from what I have read online, is a standard Steve Ditko response (hey ,at least he sent it back). My second attempt was via email to various artists I have purchase pages from in the past, so we'll see how that works out. If I actually get all the commsions I have lined up backup, that should get me to the summer and the main convention season, where I can start trying a litle one on one. Speaking of the convention season, their were several monumental (or noteworthy, probably not that big) items in this months comic news. First off, San Diego Comic Con finally annouced tickets would go on sale next weekend Feburary 5th. I got the airline flight to San Diego booked, and this fabulous hotel room reserved "Single Room No TV -shared bathroom." I guess I might as well go head and get a ticket to tthe convention too. In other news, "Wizard" magazine in hard copy format has been cancelled (good thing I paid for that two year subscription in November). The Human Torch dies in this years polybag polydeath stunt in the Fantastic Four. And finallly, both DC and Archie pullled out of the Comics Code Authority, which effectively kill that (may actually have been dead since 2009). The code was created in 1954 partly in response to psychiatrist Fredric Wertham book "Seduction of the Innocent." In honor of this fact, I have purchase me a copy of "Seduction of the Innocent" to read on the plane to San Diego. And in rebuttal to it, I have renamed my second original comic art project for this year "Redemption of the Decadent"...more to come...
