I like stories to captivate me, draw me in. Dynamic and full-on, like music. From
the art of Howard Chaykin I can like Ironwolf, American Flagg and especially the Cody Starbuck stories best. For balancing between both the lush and the gritty, the sweet as well as the bold. Fast and loose, yet tight and heavy. Elegant yet rugged, daring or heroic however coming almost uneasily easy.

This being a page from an old-school war-comic (DC 1978) in the 'Enemy Ace'
storyline, created by writer Robert Kanigher and artist Joe Kubert, about nobility getting mangled and consumed by war inevitably. Chaykin sort of has his name on it when I think about it.

His images here seem to come so on the mark like jazz in the rain, on key dissonantly.
There are even some buffly lettered sound-effects, like from the posh pistols,
breaking the dawn but echoing shame instead of drawing blood. The Enemy Ace, Baron Hans Von Hammer, as in the end-face-panel, seems so iconically raw it's like Bernie Krigstein or Osamu Tezuka a bit, or Hugo Pratt's Corto Maltese.

The previous owner had the page signed in the last panel, at a Con in 2004.

At the top of the page sits a text overlay, in yellowed tape. There will also be some bleed, like in the end-panel. I take such for being like the artist's or musician's perspiration. And I guess I feel sort of thankful for mr Chaykin to having stuck to a pen rather than like a trombone.
