DescriptionGeorge Sixta (1909-1986) is the oft-overlooked cartoonist of the comic strip Rivets. Known for his sweet line work and expressive dog character, Sixta introduced Rivets into the pages of the Saturday Evening Post in 1944. The character later became a syndicated comic strip in 1953, and lasted until the year before Sixta's passing. This particular example, from March 22, 1966, features Rivets throughout, as he's seemingly not allowed to do anything in the house. When one of the characters wonders what Rivets would say if he could talk, Rivets thinks, "Fussbudgets". That name, of course, was one of the nicknames Charles Schulz gave to Lucy Van Pelt. This is the only time that I've seen another cartoonist appropriate the name. Social/Sharing |
