Description

Cover to Standard Comics' Encyclopedia (Harcover).

Originally published during the 1980s as a 12 part comic book maxi-series to highlight the company's cast of characters, the series was collected into a hardcover version in 2007. Designed as a marketing tool, it bore fruit with a cartoon series, action figures, feature films, and tv series.

Illustrated by Mitch Ballard, this cover features:

Actually, it's a pinup of obscure Golden Age character by Mitch. I didn't even expect a background, but Mitch came up with this great cosmic vortex - check out the stars on the blacks, nice. And, I'm supposed to be the Internet nerd obsessed with the Grim Reaper (not really, but he's a recurring theme), and I never noticed the scythe on Grim Reaper's cape until Mitch drew it in! But nobody should commission him, because he needs to be exclusive to me ;-)
