However, in brief, the villains of the issue are a fictional version (I assume) of the Guardian Life Insurance Company, where my father worked for many years, and years after I worked for another company that was affiliated with Guardian.
Suffice it to say, the original artwork for the cover to Captain America #291 would be my comic art Holy Grail. However, I have never seen the original artwork anywhere. and even if I did, I seriously doubt I would be able to afford a vintage John Byrne cover.
Anyway, I've been a fan of Fred Hembeck's work for many years. I absolutely love his wacky cover recreations (reinterpretations, really) and in the back of my mind I always wanted to get one. Given the personal significance Cap #291 has for me, I decided that would be a very appropriate choice. So here is Fred Hembeck's cover redo of John Byrne's artwork for Cap #291, "Attack of the Tumbler!"
Fred is a really great, easy artist to do business with, and I highly recommend commissioning a piece from him. Hopefully I will be able to get another cover redo by him in the future. I was thinking of Captain America #278, the very first issue of the series that I ever read as a kid. That would definitely be cool.
