Description
This page is extremely important to me. In my opinion, Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men is one of the greatest runs in all of comics history. What Grant and artist Frank Quitely did with the character called Xorn is a big reason why. I get chills every time I read this story and get to this page. Depicted here is the aftermath of the U-Men attack on Xorn's Special Class, an event that brings the misfits closer together. . . and also gives major foreshadowing that there is more to Xorn than meets the eye. In addition, this is the first issue where Frank's pencils went uninked and straight to digital color. I sat on the fence about this piece for a long time, but when I heard that Frank was doing pencil headsketches at ECCC 2011 for $275, I pulled the trigger on this page as fast as I could. Thanks to Mitch Itkowitz for giving me the chance to add a truly personal grail to my collection!

Chills, brutha, chills! I, too, loved Grant's and Frank's run on the title, and this page captures that mystique nicely. Very well chosen!

Great balls of fire, but this is magnificent!  I missed my chance on a cool Quitely NXM page back in the day, and I've kicked myself since...  Awesome score - I always loved the character of Xorn, and was kind of bummed when he turned out to be Magneto...  I thought the temperment and personality type of Xorn - the aged mystic / wise person - was a great fit with the X-Men, who can sometimes be portrayed as angsty, young, and angry...

Super page, man - congrats!

Thank you so much, Jason! I was so bummed that Xorn turned out to be Magneto, then I realized what a wonderful surprise it was, and that Grant had really worked his tail off to make us like Xorn-- just so he could stick the knife in our guts! It hurts so much from the reader's standpoint, but from a creator's standpoint it is truly a magic trick that I am still amazed by after all these years and rereads!
