Description

This is the very first piece of original art I ever owned. My Dad, knowing I loved comics, went to a nearby con to buy something for me. Not aware of what to buy, and unwilling to wait in line for the superstars of the day, my father wandered into the hall and found a young man (only 3 years older than me) sketching away. Art was popular, but not yet a superstar, so getting a free sketch while just hanging in the hallway was a possibility.

When my Dad presented me with this sketch he asked, "I don't know if this guy is one of your favorites. I couldn't get Byrne or Kirby. Did I do good?"

Yes, Dad. You did.

Great story! I know how once first OA is very significant and in your case especially so because your Dad got it for you! I wish my Dad would be as thoughtful! lol
