Gus Mager - Matilda

This is my favorite piece from the entire sketchbook. It's just a loving and lovely image of Mager's wife Matilda, as she sits in her chair, using the sewing machine. The line work is elegant, lyrical and beautiful. I love little touches, like the brief two-point perspective of the sewing tray. It adds some wonderful depth to the piece. What I love most about the drawing are the things that Mager left out. He drew just enough, and knew when to stop. November 1954.
