Description

Last page from issue 278. After taking on Heatwave and Captain Boomerang, The Flash finds himself surprised and in the life draining clutches of Clive Yorkin. Between the years of 1977 and 1980, The Flash comic book was the one that my dad picked up for me, and it's no secret that I love these issues and the art from them. I'm always looking for more pages from this time period and these issues. There were some great Cary Bates stories during this time, including the death of Iris Allen, and some great artists who worked on the book; Irv Novick, Joe Giella, Frank McLaughlin, Rich Buckler, Don Heck, Kurt Schaffenberger (for an issue) and Alex Saviuk.

The Clive Yorkin storyline started off quietly and built over the issues, finally reaching it's conclusion in issue 280. Here we are post Iris's death, with the Flash looking for her killer, and the Clive Yorkin plot thread heading towards it's climax. Alex Saviuk drew a great issue ending with this page with that fantastic last panel. The perspective only serves to highlight just how much the Flash is at the mercy of Clive Yorkin. Lots of word panels all worked into the art and never obstructing it. We go out on "It's happening to me..." and have to wait thirty days to see how it turns out. What a hell of a cliff hanger.

Mr. Saviuk's style during this period reminds me of Ross Andru's.
