Description
Displayed is a WW2 English made coat of arms plaque of the Disney insigne designed in Nov1942. The unit flew from Mount Farm, England and later Chalgrove. Constituted as the 13th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron on 9June42. After several attachments was reassigned to the 7th Photographic Reconnassance and Mapping Group ("The Eyes of the Eighth") from 7July43- 21Nov45 under the 8th Air Force. Used F-5B and Spitfires to obtain information about bombardment targets and damage assessment photos after strikes. Photographed airfields, cities, industrial complexes and ports throughout Europe. Used P-51's to escort its own reconnassance planes late in the war. Received a DUC for operations during the period, 31May-30June44, when its coverage of bridges, marshalling yards, canals, highways, rivers, and other targets contributed much to the success of the Normandy campaign. Also received the French Croix de Guerre With Palm, 1944. Its original owner Walter G. Newland took part in the following campaigns: Air Offensive, Europe; Normandy; Northern France; Rhineland; Ardennes-Alsace; Central Europe. Published WDC&S.#32,Mar 1943.
