DescriptionAs most everyone knows now, Frank Miller re-inked major portions of DKR, particularly book 3. I've had this page up before, but with the original, unpublished Janson-inked panels. I've been told that the panels on this page were re-worked by Miller under an editorial edict-- that the original Janson panels were inked too "bloody". Or it could have been that Miller was unhappy with Janson's inks. For many of these re-inked panels, Miller would place tissue paper over the panels, re-ink them, and then stats would be made from the tissue paper. The "tissue paper" art is mostly lost. Lucky for me, he re-drew the panels of my page on separate board. So they've survived and now I've been able to reunite the page. Here's what it would look like put back together. I was always glad to have an example of DKR, even a flawed example. But it is very satisfying to have all the pieces together now.Social/Sharing |

the inks on this page look particularly tight... any page from the series is a grail...but this one is especially nice.

That is a great page. And it must have been so satifying to reassemble this.

Tissue paper? Ever try to ink on it? Near impossible. More likely it was vellum. Great page by the way:-)

Tissue paper? You didn't blow your nose on it to stick it to the page, did you? (Mucus = non-archival)

Fantastic! Nice to be able to put the page back together. But can we see the bloody unpublished version too? Congrats!

In the realm of collecting comic art, your Dark Night Detective skills are unquestionably very high. Well done, sir. I wish I had something as "flawed" as this in my own collection.

Very nice that you were able to re-unite the page Felix! Seeing the re-worked panels makes me wish Frank inked the whole story himself. The story was certainly deserving of that kind of attention (I bet if he could do it again he would).

Wow - I also have a stat'd page, and I can only imagine how exciting it would be to find the originals for the stats. The biggest of big-time congrats.

So wait, let me get this straight, you may have one of the only surviving examples of published Miller art that is inked not only by Janson, but also by Miller and . . . you have both inked versions? If you weren't such a nice guy Felix, life would be terribly unfair, but I am glad to watch your very memorable collection become moreso. I also would like to see that original Janson inked page posted (again) for comparison. In the meantime, congratulations Felix!

Interesting. Is there somewhere where the Janson inked panels are posted now?

DKR is still the finest comic book I have read. Thought the same since its release to this day. You have comic book royalty here.
