Alan Davis put up a batch of original art on his web site in 2011 and I was thrilled to find this double-cover from the Women of Marvel: Celebrating Seven Decades (2010) special edition. I actually didn’t know that it was a double cover since the magazine I bought only had the left side of the art, so some of the character’s expressions and poses make a lot more sense when you see the piece in its entirety.

Looking at just the left side of the piece on the cover of the magazine that I bought, I wondered why Black Cat and Kitty Pryde were looking to the right off the page. In fact, Black Cat is staring over her shoulder with a smile and a knowing look at Mary Jane and Gwen who are glaring back at her, while Kitty is looking over at Molly from the Runaways. Nice touches that demonstrate the personality Alan brings to his work.
