DescriptionSo here is my awesome story...This year at SDCC 2011, I made a donation to the Hero Initiative for a V sketch by the amazing David Lloyd (posted in another gallery). It was, or course awesome. I went back and asked him if he would do a head sketch of a character that was not one of his own. He said it depended on who it was. I told him it was my main character (Evil-Lyn) and gave him my reference sheet. He seemed a little hesitant...like he wasn't sure if he wanted to do it. I immediately backed off and said it wasn't a problem at all and that I totally understood if he didn't want to (he's David Lloyd for god's sake! What does he need with my 80's nostalgia, right?). I thanked him profusely for the V sketch and went to leave. He said he would see what he could do. I made another donation and went on my way. The last day of the con I went back to pick it up. He apologized and said that he had not, in fact, gotten to it. I said it was really ok (because he hadn't seemed super keen on the idea to begin with). Obviously, I left the donation because the Hero Initiative is a really important charity. He stopped me from leaving and asked for my address, saying he would do something nice for me. I gave it to him and went off to relax after the insanity that is SDCC. When I hadn't gotten any mail within the following weeks I pretty much figured I wasn't going to and really, I was ok with it. He is a busy man, and an icon in the industry. I completely put it out of my head. Until yesterday.....when I got a flat package from England...and I opened it....and HOLY CRAP!!!! Not only did he remember, but her personalized it and it is a full figure....and an ink wash!!!! I was/am literally speechless. I would have been super happy with the regular head sketch style he does at cons...but THIS....this is just gorgeous....and the details, the look on her face...the staff and dagger....oh my god. I am PROFOUNDLY grateful to him for not only being so considerate, but so damn classy and professional. The Hero Initiative was lucky to have him sketching for them. I am also grateful, as I always am with artists, for the personal time, energy and attention he gave to something that has brought me great joy. I know how much personal energy is invested in each and every line an artists commits to paper. David Lloyd=one damn classy icon. I am going to make sure I tell him so at the next con I see him at. :) Social/Sharing |
