Description

I've always wanted to do a Brotherhood commission utilizing Egyptian themed heroes and villains. The leering villain overhead is Seth, the Egyptian God of Death, often seen fighting the Mighty Thor. The character in the center is WarGod, who briefly starred in his own title published by the equally short-lived Chimaera Comics. WarGod is actually a hero, seen here being controled by Seth (yes, there's a story idea behind this).

The hero trying valiantly NOT to be strangled by WarGod is Menthu. He starred in his own independently published 4-issue limited series some years ago. The characters unconscious on the ground are Isis (star of her own Bluewater Productions series), Cleopatra (of ASTRO CITY fame), and Marvel's own Scarlet Scarab. A no-prize for anyone who can remember where he's appeared before.

This piece was penciled by the incredibly talented ERIC KODA. Erik is perhaps best known for penciling the X-MEN: TO PROTECT AND SERVE limited series. Its my first commission with him, but not my last. He hit all the right cylinders: Great artwork, great prices, and great service -- the trifecta, baby! You can get your own commission by Eric by high-tailing it to his DeviantArt site here, and tell him I sent you:

Special thanks to the incomparable Brian "Marvel Two-in-One 76 Guy" Sagar whose invaluable assistance made it possible for me to get this one posted today. Check out his gallery right here on CAF for more dynamite pieces of art featuring Ben Grimm than you can shake a rock-covered fist at. He's the guy Reed Richards and Tony Stark go to for computer advice. Much appreciated, Brian!

I remember a Scarlet Scarab in The Invaders series when they were fighting Nazi's in Egypt . Wasn't there one in a Thor adventure also ?

Unsurprisingly, the amazing Aidan Lacy nails it. The original Scarlet Scarab did indeed first appear in THE INVADERS and years later his son took over as the Scarab and debuted in an issue of THE MIGHTY THOR.

Fight like an Egyptian! This one's got it all -- terrific characters, cool theme, and stellar execution by a talented artist. Another triumph for the Brotherhood!
