Description

I love this one, not only because of Raeburn Van Buren's lush work on the illustration, but also the content. Bathless Groggins is on his way to the White House to meet the president, because he believes he is the oldest man in the world. Unfortunately, the doctor goofed on his birth certificate by 100 years! In the final panel, an aide tells President Lyndon Johnson that Mr. Groggins will not be arriving because he sent word that he "isn't a remarkably old man, he's merely remarkable".

Yes, Van Buren is mostly overlooked these days. His long history of illustration has left a wonderful legacy. FYI, I have another Van Buren daily with content that might interst you. About gasoline prices many years ago.
