Leto II

Leto Atreides II from year two of the 52 Weeks project: Week Eight. Here's what Greg has to say about it:

In what I think is an appropriate segue from last week's David Lynch portrait, this week features a portrait of quite possibly the weirdest of all christ figures in literature, Leto II. I'm an unabashed repeat reader of Frank Herbert's wonderfully rich Dune novels, and despite the press time given to his father, the real axis point of that series is God Emperor of Dune. In many ways it's a typical royal-house intrigue novel, but it's also a rich conversation on human governance, the role of religion, and a tragic story about a man finding love... while also in the throes of turning into a very large desert worm. Despite an expected clash of a truly bizarre mix of themes, the work sings gorgeously throughout and I find more to glean from it with every reading. A masterful work from a brilliant writer that I heartily salute this week.
