Description
This piece happened almost by accident. Greg LaRocque had just finished the wonderful Dawnstar : Dark Destiny Trilogy and we were talking about future Re-Legion projects involving the Infinite Timelines Series & Dead Legionnaires, when he showed me something he had worked on a long time ago but had put to one side.

He had been asked by DC Comics many years ago, to draw a concept where someone on Naltor ( Dream Girl's homeworld) would enter into the mind of a young girl on Earth and let her thru her dreams tap into the powers of Order and Chaos in the DC Universe. It never got off the drawing board but the concept intrigued me.

Combining Order & Chaos opened the door to Dr.Fate and Naltor was a link to Dream Girl. We played around with ideas, then I threw it over to Greg LaRocque and Chris Ivy, You can see the two images below, that were blended to make this Re-Legioned cover, Dr Fate issue 41 and a published image of Dream Girl that Greg drew in The Universo Project / Legion of Superheroes storyline, where she was trapped in her own subconscious mind.

And so, Legion of Superheroes : The Dreaming was born..The costume is slightly different. It has echoes of her beloved teamate Thom ( Starman) Kellor's uniform which gave him the ability to traverse the multiverse and the cloud effect costume that she wore during the Kitson & Waid's incarnation of the Legion when she was a brilliant tactial leader who was three steps ahead of everyone else.

Greg did a magnificent job with incredible and detailed inks, not just with the main figure but with all the other images which hints and give glimpses of the forces of good and evil to be found in the DC Universe.

Dream Girl is often portrayed as a pretty face but the strange Cassandra-like nature of her powers gives Dream Girl a constant sad undertone that her flighty facade ocassionally fails to hide. Knowing what’s coming may be useful, even crucial, for a Legion leader, it can also make the inevitable pains of life that much more unbearable. But standing up and fighting for what you believe even if you know & believe that your effort is preordainded to fail..that is what makes you a Hero.

Dream Girl has always been a study in contrasts, the girl who wants to do nothing more than have fun with pretty boys who nonetheless takes her responsibilities seriously.. She takes it all on from hangnails to the terror of Darkseid.

Though her Legion power isn’t the most impressive, she uses it to it’s full effect, and since her very first appearance her overarching character trait has been a need to prevent tragedy and pain from affecting the innocent.

Though occasionally self-centered, and acid-tonguedly bitchy, Dream Girl proves the theory that you can’t judge any book by it’s cover.

And Greg and Chris caught up the many facets and delicious dreamy contrasts that is Nura Nal with Legion of Superheroes : The Dreaming.

Enjoy

Thanks,Drake. Diving into the 31st Century Universe of the Legion can be daunting so I am glad that you are willing to come along for the ride. These commissions have taken on a life of their own both artistically and contentwise but I wouldn't have it any other way..that's what makes all of this SO MUCH FUN !!
