Description
While the Legion of Superheroes ( along with the Subs, Academy, friends and allies ) is my first love, the equally intricate but also rewarding, Justice Society of America with all its off-shoots and incarnations such as Infinity Inc, Young All Stars and the All Star Squadron is not far behind.

The classic cover of All Star Squadron Issue 1 with members of the JSA going through a selection process of choosing members in the dark days of Pearl Harbour, has been reused and adapted again and again by the artists and writers of the JSA, JLA series. It even recently jumped company publishing ship and entered the Avengers mythos .

So, in others words Rich Buckler did it first and in my opinion , he did it best.

I wanted him to give the Legion of Superheroes the " All Star " treatment and he graciously agreed. This was a ton of work, character charts, getting costume references and even inside Legion nods and winks, as we see Infectious Lass' image sliding off the table as she faces rejection (Again )

We in our own way echoed the cover by choosing ourselves who would make the cut into this little gem. My favorites such as Ferro Lad and the Subtitue Heroes along with Legion Reservists Insect Queen and Kid Psycho made it feel like a trip down memory lane. Rich even echoed the poses of the Legionnaires in the photographs from an Swan/ Adventure Comic's eg; Colossal Boy lifting a ship, all of which helps to give it an old school feel.

Chris Ivy came up with a great logo that drew upon and echoed the original All Star's Squad history. This commission took a while , not just because it was very complicated but also because Rich got drafted back into the DC Retroactive series but he kept me in the loop and as you can see, it was well worth it. I

I recommend him to you and he gave me permission to post his e-mail, should you wish to contact him about your own commission.
It is bucklersr@aim.com

I am thankful for many things this holiday season but the Legion of Superheroes, Rich Buckler and Chris Ivy are most definitely on that list.

Enjoy
