Tales From The Crypt, che annoverava nel cast Peter Cushing e Joan Collins, ebbe un grande successo negli Stati Uniti e nel 1972 fu uno dei film che guadagnò maggiormente al botteghino. Si piazzò al secondo posto dietro solo al Padrino. La ragione di questo speciale interesse fu dovuto anche al fatto che si ispirò ai celebri fumetti horror della Ec Comics, diventati ormai dei classici. Eppure, alla sua prima proiezione, il giudizio dei giornalisti non fu affatto entusiasta.
