DescriptionI wanted my 100th Re-Legion post to be Special so I went back to the man who did my first Re-Legion Commission and my 1000th CAF post...John Watson. One of the reasons I moved towards this theme is despite a large collection, I couldnt find pages that I consider Grails. I still collect Legion of Superheroes Art and at the very top of that list is a Keith Giffen Legion/Supergirl page from the Great Darkness era and after. Those ten issues or so highlighted Kara in creative ways as the powers that be considered her "moving" to the 30th Century after the Crisis event. Well, we know that DC upped the ante and that Kara died in Issue 7 of the groundbreaking series Crisis on Infinite Earths. However, those foundational Legion stories have stood the test of time.. So we decided for this Re-Legion to focus on Supergirl who returned to the Legion after a long absence to battle Darkseid. John took this Ms. Marvel cover originally drawn by the late Dave Cockrum and the magic started to flow. This is rendered beautifully and shows Supergirl facing not just Darkseid but her own fears. The tones and contrasts between darkness and light are great. And until the day comes until the Giffen pages comes my way, ( still hoping and searching ) this is going a long way to keep me happy. The Re-Legion project has taken on a life of its own and out of 100 commissions, I have had very few negative experiences. I want to thank other commission experts like Michael Finn, Shannon Weathers, Michael Dunne , for helping me navigate this new territory of comic art. Their introductions opened doors and their advice saved me from making too many costly rookie mistakes..and Chris Ivy has been a constant companion throughout. John Watson has encouraged and challenged me to be creative . He has been generous with his time and talents. So enjoy a visit back to the Legion Glory Days of the Great Darkness. We are not stopping at 100 and with talented people like John Watson out there, you know there is much more goodness to come. Social/Sharing |
